What Happens to Your Body During Cryotherapy?

Central Arkansas Cryotherapy Center

Have you ever wondered what happens to your body when you have a cryotherapy session? Cryotherapy is the use of cold temperatures to promote healing and well-being. It's often used in the treatment of sports injuries, but it can also be used to treat health conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia, or just as a way to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Maybe you’ve heard the claims for all of the benefits, but what about the numbers? What actually happens to your body when it’s exposed to dry ice temperatures? This blog will help explain what effects cryotherapy treatments have on your body and why they're such a hit among our clients.

During your cryotherapy session, you'll stand inside our machine that looks a bit like a futuristic tanning booth. You'll remove all your clothing and put on gloves and special shoes. Then you'll step into the chamber.

When you step inside the chamber, the first thing that happens is that air will start blowing rapidly from extremely cold sources, cooling the chamber. At this point, you'll begin to feel the cold air on your exposed skin.

Next, the temperature will slowly begin to drop from room temperature down to -240 F over a 1-3 minute period. You will not be exposed directly to liquid nitrogen; instead, the gas will cool the air around you. During this time you may experience some pinching sensations on your skin—this is normal! The cold air is lowering your blood pressure and causing your small blood vessels to constrict.

What Happens When You Leave the Chamber?

When you come out of the chamber, it's like nothing happened at all—except for feeling awesome! You'll be able to feel everything again and have more control over your body than ever before (which means you can go back to work or school without feeling sluggish).

There’s a reason why more and more people are choosing to try cryotherapy. If you have questions on whether or not cryotherapy is a treatment solution for you, don't hesitate to reach out to our team! We are happy to help guide you and answer any questions that come up along the way.
